Sixth Grade Curriculum

Here are the goals for Digital Learning for 6th grade.  It is a semester long class.

Course Outline
Units Duration Effectively communicate and present information and ideas through research and applications. 

Essential Understandings
  • Technology can prepare us for and be applied to various career opportunities.
  • Appropriate technology choices help us to communicate effectively.
  • Using digital tools allow us to gather, evaluate, and use information to learn and solve problems.
  • Technology concepts are transferable and can be applied in appropriate settings.
  • Appropriate use of different types of media impacts our lives and the lives of others.

Power Standards
1.  Analyze and present knowledge using diverse media applications and formats.
2.  Navigate the digital world using appropriate netiquette.

Learning targets
6.1A  I can justify reliable resources to increase my knowledge.
6.1B  I can apply features within various media applications and formats. (Grouping, layering, cropping, inserting music, graphics, etc.)
6.1C  I can construct graph(s) and data table(s) to represent appropriate data.
6.1D  I can construct effective types of presentation(s) for multiple audiences. (Prezi, Pivot, PowerPoint, MM, PS, Animato)
6.1E  I can use technology including the internet to produce and publish writing as well as collaborative with others.
6.1F  I can conduct short research  projects that use several sources to build knowledge through investigation of different aspects of a topic.
6.1G  I can prioritize digital resources for an intended purpose(s) for an intended purpose(s). (Google searches, Searchasaurus, Kids Search, etc.)
6.2A  I can apply ethical behavior (copyright, not plagiarizing, proper netiquette) when using digital resources.

Prerequisites 
6.1A  I can define reliable resources.
6.1B  I can define grouping, layering, cropping, inserting music, graphics, draw using curve tool or drawing app, site, program, etc.
6.1C  I can gather data through online surveys and other resources.
6.1D  I can construct effective types of presentations for multiple audiences.
6.1E  I can define publish and collaborate
6.1F  I can define different aspects of a topic.
6.1G  I can define prioritize.
6.2A  I can list appropriate types of ethical behavior when using digital resources.
