Lesson Plans for October 19, 2019
Pre setup...My husband is bringing the Batman 70s video (should be available at the front desk).  You will need to set it up on the computer.  Check with the front desk (Maria if she is there) if you need help with it.  Computer should already be set up and connected to the Internet and projector.    You will be using the Batman 70s video, my website and the Batman slide show which is linked to the web page (See note below).  NOTE:  Click Slide Show Lesson button above to the right of the Batman picture for lesson)
Have the slide show opened to slide one as the students enter the room.

Pre preparation:  The roster will be in the folder for this class and Animals that Attack and Batman as well.
You will need to go to the website and set it up on the computer.  (I am hoping they provided you with the link).

Step 1:  Take attendance on both sheets and turn in one to the front desk.  Ask if there is anyone whose name you did not call.  If their name was not called, check their id badge to make sure they are in the correct class.  If they are not, you can have the teacher assistant take them to the correct class.  If they are in the right class and their name is not on the roster, please add them to the list.

Step 1b:  Please take attendance on both sheets.  Put one in the folder and turn in the other one to the front desk.  If students come in and are scattered across the whole auditorium, have them move in closer to the front so we can all be together.

Step 2:  Welcome students to class.  Tell them...."Today we will look at early Batman and how it transitioned to not only comic books, but TV and animation.
Any idea how old Batman is?  Thumbs up or thumbs down to answer
10 years...check...20 years....check...30 years...40 years...50 years...60 years...70 years...80 years...(if you said 80 years, you are correct!  Batman's birthday was September 21, 2019.

So we are going to find your level of Batman fan...using thumbs up for yes and thumbs down for no.  (feel free to alter the way they share the input according to students' motor skills.)"

Write a table on the board  that says yes on one side and no on the other.
(After you do the table, you can pick someone to write the info on the board if you wish)
OOPS!  I just realized that I'm not sure there is a board to write on in the auditorium.
As an alternative...I have included a table on slide 2.  Please read the questions aloud to help our non readers or visually impaired students.
Please type the number of Yes and No on the table in the slide show.
After you are finished tabulating the results, have them stand up.  Then ask them, how many of you said yes to 1 of the Batman fandom questions.  Remain standing if you said yesEx to TWO....Sit down if no...
Continue until only one person is left standing OR they are still standing at the last question.  Be sure to find the name of the student (or students) who had the most yes answers.  Please type it on the table and tell them they will get a prize next class.

Step 2:  Continue with the slide show.  You will now be on slide 3.  Explain that Batman was a comic book before it ever turned i nto animation on TV or real people.  Batman in the 70s was the first TV show and there was Batman (Adam West-actor) and Robin.  Every show created for Batman also had a theme song.  You are going to hear it now.  Play the song.

Step 3:  Skip to slide 9.  (You will start with this slide AFTER you show them the Batman tv show.  Tell them...we are now going to watch some Batman TV from the 70s.  Be ready to discuss what you liked about it and didn't like about it when through.  Be ready to tell me if you prefer the newer movies and/or animations or do you like the 70s Batman.

Pick two of the shows from the Batman 70s show DVD (you may or may not have time to finish this).

Step 4: (only if time permits)...go to slide
While they are watching the first show, it would be a good time to collect the id badges from students.  Have them put the string inside the plastic sleeve (or help them as needed) or have a student(s) pick up the id badges making sure the string is inside the plastic sleeve.
