Lesson 2 Plan Saturday, October 26, 2019
Pre preparation: Get the folder from the front desk (Maria if she is there). The roster will be in the folder for this class and Animals that Attack and Batman as well.
You will need to go to the website and set it up on the computer.
Supplies: There should be 1 flashlight for each student (Check at the front desk for it)
Step 1: Take attendance on both sheets, put one in the folder and turn in one to the front desk. Ask if there is anyone whose name you did not call. If their name was not called, check their id badge to make sure they are in the correct class. If they are not, you can have the teacher assistant take them to the correct class. If they are in the right class and their name is not on the roster, please add them to the list. If students come in and are scattered across the whole auditorium, have them move in closer to the front so we can all be together.
Step 2: Tell them...Welcome to class everyone! In Electrified, today we will take a look at how lightning can strike and what to do to protect yourself and your family. We're going to see how to keep safe when lightning strikes and figure out what to do when the lights go out.
Step 3: Ask students if they have ever been out in a thunderstorm. If they answer yes, ask them what they did to be safe.
Step 4: So we are going to watch some stories about thunderstorms. Click on links below labeled A, B, C, D, E, 1, 2, 3
Step 5: Tell them you are now going to watch videos about what happens when lightning strikes AAA, BBB, CCC, DDD
Give students opportunity to comment or ask them a question or summarize. Ask them to tell at least one new thing they learned.
Step 6: Watch the videos about fuse boxes..review what to do to protect yourself from a storm and What to do if the lights go out. Pass out the flashlights and show them how to test it to make sure it is working. There is a clear plastic circle in the flashlight they will have to remove to make it work (unless it is already removed on some. Divide the class into small groups of 5 or less and make sure the know how to take out battery set (it is one piece) and take out and replace batteries. They are their flashlights to keep so they can use them in case of a storm blackout.
You can play tim the taylor video clips in the background while they are working on their flashlights. Make sure they take them home.
